The annual Friends of the Library book sale, a Fairlee Independence Day tradition which coincides with Fairlee’s 4th of July parade, took in a record breaking number of donations! Thank you to all who came to the sale and made a donation, all of which help to fund the buying of books and the hosting of programs, events, resources, and more for the library and its patrons.
The Fairlee Library had a float in the parade this year! A collaboration between Fairlee Public Library, the Orford libraries, and Fairlee Community Arts, it was a festive sight to behold as it made its way from Orford to Fairlee, complete with rainbow balloon arches, oversized books and art supplies, handmade banners, and lots and lots of bubbles. It even earned second place in the parade prize competition! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us make the decorations, build the float, and who walked and/or rode in the parade!
The Summer Reading Program is in full swing at Fairlee Public. Readers of all ages are welcome to participate in the summer reading challenge by tracking their reading and competing in teams to see which team can read the most minutes by the end of the summer. Participating in the summer reading program also earns you raffle tickets that you can use to enter to win any number of fun and exciting prizes. The last day to turn in your reading minutes and/or enter to win a prize will be August 16th, and the Summer reading program as a whole will wrap on August 22nd with a pizza party!
As part of our summer programming, we are hosting weekly Crafternoons for ages 8 and up (though younger folks are welcome to participate with assistance), every Friday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. All are also welcome to join our library director, Brook, for a children’s storytime and a craft every Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
On August 16th, the Fairlee library will be visited by the Arts Bus which, in their own words, is “a traveling art and music studio, pop-up theatre, workshop, and maker space engaging children in the fun of creativity through free arts education.” The Bus travels all over Vermont bringing art to children all over the state, and we are lucky enough to be their first visit to Fairlee!
Follow our Facebook page and our website for more information on all upcoming events!
The summer season is off to a wonderful start at the library, with so many returning and new faces! Thank you again to all our volunteers, Friends, patrons, and community members who make the library the place that it is.
